Rationale for My Advocacy

7.3 million girls become pregnant before 18 and 2.5 million girls aged 15 or younger give birth each year worldwide. According to the data from the Philippine Statistics Authority, 24 babies are delivered by teenage mothers every hour. This will result for them to stop going to school and reaching their dreams. Some of them might have thoughts of aborting their child because they are not ready for a big responsibility. I, as a woman and a teenager, is not capable to nurture a child because I am just depending to my parents in order to survive. If I have a child to nurture that means double responsibility to my parents.

Another reason in advocating for the use of contraceptive is the spreading of virus such as HIV and AIDS. According to 2017 April’s statistics, more than half of the month’s cases came from the 25-34 age group. Disturbingly, 30% of the new cases were from the 15-24 age group. Therefore using contraceptives during sexual intercourse will lessen the number of people who might suffer from this virus.

Advocating for the use of contraceptives does not mean that I encourage young people to have sex with someone but rather giving them knowledge about the effects and consequences of an unsafe sex.
